OUR COMMITMENT TO CHILD SAFETY
Ngaanyatjarra Health Service has developed a Statement of Commitment to Child Safety as part of our work to strengthen child safeguarding across the organisation.
The Statement grows directly out of Yara Kutjupa — our Child, Youth and Family Strategy — and its Abundance Model. Rather than importing an outside definition of what child safety means, the Statement is built on Yarnangu understandings that already carry cultural authority across the Ngaanyatjarra Lands: a picture of children being cared for the right way, and of what growing up strong looks like.
It was further shaped through the initial child safeguarding scoping and consultation process, reflecting discussions with staff, leaders, families and communities across the Lands. Importantly, it recognises that child safety cannot be achieved by an organisation working alone. It requires strong relationships and shared responsibility with children and young people, families, communities and partner organisations.
The Statement brings together the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations with Yarnangu knowledge, culture, priorities and aspirations.
It also deliberately takes a broader view of child safety – our commitment is not only to protecting children from harm, but to supporting children and young people to grow up with strong family, strong culture, belonging, learning, opportunity and hope.
NHS Board, Leadership and all health services staff are committed to providing and championing a Child Safe Organisation.
NHS STATEMENT OF COMMITMENT
We are committed to implementing the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations in ways that reflect Yarnangu knowledge, culture, priorities and aspirations.
We know we cannot keep children safe on our own. We will continue to work alongside children, young people, families, communities and our partners to build an organisation where every child feels safe, valued, respected and heard.
Our commitment is not only to protect children from harm, but to help them grow up with strong family, strong culture, belonging, learning, opportunity and hope.
The Statement has now been formally endorsed and can be published as NHS’s organisational commitment to child safety.
