TRADES ASSISTANT

Ngaanyatjarra Services is an incorporated not-for-profit Aboriginal organisation delivering a range of services to Aboriginal Communities throughout the Goldfields and Central Reserves Region. The Essential Services division is primarily concerned with the delivery of maintenance and construction services to mains power, water and sewage services to these communities.

Ngaanyatjarra Services – Essential Services is seeking an experienced, motivated and enthusiastic Trades Assistant/ Labourer to join the trades team and assist operations where required.  

This is a casual position with the possibility of becoming permanent. This position is FIFO from within Western Australia, working a roster of 20 days on per calendar month (subject to change).

The successful candidate will be able to work well with others and ‘fit’ into the team; will be able to work autonomously reporting directly to the supervisor; will maintain a high standard of work within the limits of the resources available; will be able to tolerate harsh and remote environments; and will be prepared to travel and work self-contained.

The role involves:

Working autonomously or as part of a team on ‘public’ utilities in remote central Western Australia. While on shift you will be generally required to assist administration in the planning of your own work routine to cover the next 20 day run as well as being ready to be diverted to any emergency or unplanned maintenance.

It is highly desirable that you have demonstrated experience in the maintenance and construction of water pipelines. 

Your duties will include:

The installation, servicing, repairs and upgrades to the following type of assets:

  • Mains water and sewage pipeline installation and repairs.
  • Assist with other duties as directed to ensure the effective operation of the maintenance team and essential services assets.
  • Pickups and delivery of materials required for operations.
  • Reporting of work completions, materials ordering, asset condition and SHQE as required by management.
  • Servicing of water transfer/storage/treatment systems.
  • Assisting crews with other building and installation projects.

Demonstrated skills and accreditation:

  • Current ‘C’ driver’s licence and high preference given to those with ‘HR’ or ‘HC’.  
  • Machine operation – Excavator and Loader.
  • Able to pass DAS and Employer Medicals
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills.
  • Excellent IT literacy in MS Office Suite and be competent in enabling mobile broadband/wi-fi/satellite connectivity across a range of devices with minimal support.
  • Construction White Card
  • EWP, Confined Spaces, Working at Heights, First Aid Course is desirable.
  • Exposure to industrial Electrical/Mechanical maintenance desirable.
  • Experience and knowledge of water treatment and disinfection systems is desirable.
