Refrigeration Mechanic

Ngaanyatjarra Repairs and Maintenance is a not-for-profit organisation providing direct building (planning and construction) and maintenance services to the 11 Communities in the region surrounding Warburton near the West Australia / North Territory / South Australia borders. 

The Refrigeration Mechanic is responsible for the delivery of planned and preventative maintenance, and breakdown repairs (including emergency callouts) and documenting works as per statutory requirements of commercial and residential installations.

With one community noted as the most remote community in Australia, the Refrigeration Mechanic role requires travel between the very remote communities to complete scheduled maintenance and necessary repairs on existing community domestic and commercial infrastructure. 

All Communities are “dry” areas and consumption of alcohol is prohibited.

This position is offered on a Fly in, Fly out (FIFO) basis.  Staff will be employed on a full time basis and work a 21 day on and 14 day off roster (3/2).  Accommodation, food and travel is provided.

 

Key Tasks and responsibilities may include:

  • Complete JSAs prior to commencement of work.
  • All elements of Refrigeration trade maintenance to new installation including commercial and domestic.
  • Complete site inspections/audits as instructed.
  • Liaise with the Construction Maintenance Supervisor in regard to material procurement, progress on site issues and logistics/material delivery and plant and equipment and scoping of projects
  • Attend weekly Staff and Contractor meetings and report on current projects.
  • Formal reporting as required to Regional Housing administration
  • Ensure communications are appropriate to communities and associated entities
  • Guide and supervise any apprentices assigned to your team

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • The willingness and ability to work with traditional Aboriginal people in an environment where cultural norms and community development priorities may different from your own.
  •  A willingness to travel frequently and be able to drive long distances on unsealed roads in a safe manner at all times
  •  Experience working in both new residential and commercial installations, including a demonstrated knowledge to safely and properly maintain and fault find in both residential and commercial installations.
  • A good knowledge of and commitment to workplace health and safety practices.
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • A demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and unsupervised
  • A willingness to adhere to Council By-Laws and Code of Conduct, including the no-alcohol requirement
  • Excellent forward planning ability and an adaptable approach to decision making
  • Demonstrated initiative and perseverance, whilst working well under pressure
  • Able to work harmoniously in a small team in hot and remote environments
  • To pass a pre-employment medical and drug test, and on-site testing.
  • Be able to live and work in an alcohol-free environment
  • Proficient computer uses skills, including Microsoft Suite (Excel, Outlook, MSWord)

You will have the following qualifications and tickets:

  • Relevant Australian Trade qualifications
  • Current WA Refrigerant Handling Licence.
  • National Police Clearance
  • White Card is essential
  • Current Senior First Aid, including CPR is essential
  • Current driver’s license is essential.
